Circular Process Engineering Laboratory
The Circular Process Engineering (CPE) Lab, directed by Dr. Khaled Benis, is a part of the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science at Dalhousie University. Our research at the CPE Lab focuses on exploring various biomass and waste materials within the concept of the circular economy. Our mission is simple yet profound: design processes to convert these resources into value-added materials that enhance the environment and pave the way for a sustainable future. Our present focus is on converting biomass and waste into energy carriers and developing waste-derived materials for environmental applications, particularly water treatment. Using innovative thermal and chemical processes, we address global challenges in sustainable energy and clean water. Techniques like pyrolysis, gasification, adsorption, electrosorption, and advanced oxidation are central to advancing both energy recovery and water purification.
